Port Erin Marine Laboratory 1892 - 2006 R.I.P.
In the beginning was THE LAB.
And the University (of Liverpool) funded THE LAB. And it became a centre of excellence for marine studies throughout the World. And it was GOOD.
And the University saw that it was GOOD, and many students and scientists came to THE LAB and learned in the ways of their forefathers (..and foremothers) and then spread the Word throughout the World. And it was GOOD.
But the Accountants came and like the plagues of Egypt they rampaged through THE LAB and smote it down and killed it. Then the Elders of THE LAB remembered the ways of their forefathers (..and foremothers) and got together and said..... LET'S PARTY !!!
And so came to pass the GRAND FAREWELL REUNION
